Mother’s Day 2010

On Sunday, May 9, 2010, Phillip Weems and I had the opportunity to present a song that we had written for Mother’s Day.  It was a meditation on Proverbs 31 and how parents have the greatest impact on their kids during the most critical times of their lives.  Specifically, this song refers to birth, new birth (salvation) and, finally, the death of the parent.

Thanks to Phillip for writing this song with me.  It was a blessing to us and to our church as well.

new youth website

As you know, in January of this year I became the new youth pastor at First Baptist Church, Abbeville, AL.  One tool that we have needed since I got here was a new youth website.  So, as of the beginning of May, we launched a new youth website based on our new focus…{emmaus}.

Many people are familiar with Luke 24 where Jesus is walking on the road to Emmaus with two men who do not recognize Him.  The topic of their conversation: how the Scriptures spoke of Jesus as the Messiah who would provide deliverance from their sins by His death and resurrection from the dead.  Then, once He disappeared from their sight, they realized that it was Jesus.  But after they had that realization, they had a “duh” moment.  In their hearts they couldn’t believe that they didn’t realize it was Him because, they said, “Did not our hearts burn within us He walked with us on the road, while He opened to us the Scriptures?” (Luke 24:31-32)

Therefore, the point of our times together in the youth ministry when we gather around the Word is for our hearts to burn for Christ as we taste and see the pictures of Him in the Scriptures.  Therefore, come and join us if you can as we gather on the road to {emmaus} together.  And as a resource to complement the new focus, go and see www.emmausabbeville.com
