Student Life | Day 2
Posted on May 31, 2009
This morning has started off great! Everyone went to sleep last night on time (after a vicious game of Uno) and then everyone was up on time as well, surprisingly. However, I will say this, whenever students go to bed on time, they tend to wake up in better moods, which makes for a better day. The food was good this morning as well. We had some kind of “nugget” this morning. I thought it was pork, but then someone said it was chicken, so I am confused.
After breakfast (and some ping pong where I broke Tim’s eight game win streak against me), we went to our morning quiet times and then to Morning Celebration. I love the schedule at Student Life camps.
It is really neat to see some of our students who have never been to one of these camps learn how it works. It is such a blessing to see the childlikeness come out.
Also, I have to say that I love my wife. She lead our youth to put like 150 votes in nominating me as Youth Minister of the Day. Wow! It was very humbling. I didn’t win though, so they are going to think of more creative ways to get me up on that stage. They are hoping that the people are going to ask me to do a toe touch in front of the 800-1000 people who are here. That is going to be interesting!
Thank you so much for your prayers while we are here. Please continue to pray for us and I will keep you updated as the day goes on!
Student Life 2009 | March 30-June 3

Hey everyone, I just wanted to let all of you know that we are at Student Life this week. We have travelled up to Talledega, Alabama to the to Baptist Mecca (as one friend called it), Shocco Springs!
15 people (10 students, 5 adults) have ventured up here with the hopes that God is going to do a mighty work in the lives of some of our students. We have a pretty young group, which excites and exhausts me at the same time. I am really praying that God would set them on a course this week so that they can be focused on what the Lord wants for them, not only this summer, but also in the years to come.
Pray for us this week. The worship band is my good friends, Rush of Fools. The speaker is Dave Edwards. The adults are: me, Mandy, Tim, Van, and Shauna. The students are (from oldest to youngest): Samanatha (graduated), Tyler (11th), Kiley (10th), Emily (10th), Joseph (10th), Caroline (10th), Hunter (9th), Willie (8th), Kirby (7th) and Elizabeth (7th). We have a couple of new believers and some that are stagnant and having trouble growing in the Lord.
Thank you for your prayers! We will be updating the youth website with Twitter several times a day throughout the week. Thanks!

As a male living in a hyper-sexualized culture, the onslaught of visual ads meant to stimulate the mind to action is constant. From TV shows to billboards to the Internet, our culture is enticing all ages of men, from young to old, to lust. Consequently, many of our young men are falling prey to easily-accessible pornography from an early age…and such was my battle. Therefore, I am very happy to see a group of men stepping up to help the local church deal with this major issue. This organization is known as “Freedom Begins Here.” A good friend of mine, Kevin Huguley, from Rush of Fools let me know about this group. So far, I have liked what I have seen. So, store this resource up for a time when you need it, or when you need to help another young man fight this battle for his soul.
